60 DPS Schools Honored for Top Performance

Westerly Creek Elementary School was one of 60 Denver Public Schools honored by the Colorado Department of Education for top performance on the Colorado Measures of Academic Success or CMAS. Westerly Creek has received the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award and the John Irwin Award

The Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Awards are given to schools that demonstrate exceptional student growth. On the school performance framework used by the state to evaluate schools, these schools "exceed" expectations on the indicator related to longitudinal academic growth and "meet or exceed" expectations on the indicator related to academic growth gaps.

The John Irwin Awards are given to schools that demonstrate exceptional academic achievement over time. These schools received an Exceeds Expectations rating on the Academic Achievement indicator of the School Performance Frameworks reflecting exceptional performance in Math, English Language Arts, and Science. The Excellence Awards are named for former Colorado State Representative, John J. Irwin.

Congratulations to our students and educators whose hard work resulted in high growth or improvement on state assessments!
